Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

Connect With Yourself

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a revolutionary listening therapy that aims to regulate the autonomic nervous system, leading to a wide array of benefits including improved response to stress, enhanced emotional regulation, and better social connection.

What is SSP?

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based listening therapy designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors through filtered music. As a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, the SSP acts as a non-invasive, acoustic vagal nerve stimulator, helping to re-tune the nervous system to better support connection, collaboration and resilience. The SSP involves listening to specially filtered music through headphones in-person or remotely. SSP has demonstrated benefits for individuals with trauma, anxiety, sensory processing differences and more.

How Does SSP Work?

Specially Filtered Music
SSP utilizes specially filtered music that highlights frequencies known to induce feelings of safety. These frequencies, similar to everyday sounds like talking, laughter, musical instruments, water flowing, and wind rustling, help regulate the autonomic nervous system.

Cues of Safety
Individuals who struggle to interpret safety cues due to past trauma, illness, sensory differences, or developmental challenges receive direct cues of safety to the nervous system. SSP helps individuals feel calmer, more engaged, and balanced.

Therapist-Led Listening Therapy
Therapists work with individuals to create personalized listening plans that cater to their specific needs and goals. Playlists cater to different preferences and sensitivities, ensuring that individuals of all ages can engage with the therapy comfortably. Individuals can experience the SSP either in person with a certified provider or remotely from their homes.
